The ladder for the Ladder Bear is about 17 inches high. The bear (which is made of hard maple or birch) is positioned at the top of the ladder (left of photo) and released. He rotates around each rung of the ladder while proceeding to the bottom. |

| Spin in induced in the 2.5" diameter disk by
twisting the 1" long, 1/4" dowel between the
thumb and index finger. The rotating black and white design produces the illusion of color (Fechner Colors). The disk is called a Benham disk after a nineteenth-century toymaker. The phenomenon is attributed to different latency times of red, green and blue light sensitive cones in the eye. |
